Language and Early Literacy Part 1 - Fall 2026

This learning experience introduces the core ideas that shape children’s early language and literacy development. Learners examine how early experiences influence later reading success and explore the growing diversity of multilingual learners in early childhood settings. The experience highlights the importance of understanding first and second language acquisition, cross‑cultural awareness, and responsive teaching practices.

Learners will connect research‑based strategies, program policies, and family culture to everyday classroom interactions. The focus is on building supportive environments that promote language development for children learning one or more languages, with attention to practices that strengthen relationships and communication.

Throughout this experience, you will actively engage with content in ways that support your long‑term practice. You will apply what you are learning by observing and working with children and families in early learning settings, with support from your instructor and fellow learners.
